Firefox 3 Reaches 1 Million Pledges

June 11th, 2008 by Skankity Spence

If you don’t know already, Firefox is in the process of gathering internet folk to pledge that they will download the new, official release of Firefox 3 on the same day it is released. Mozilla is going for the Guinness World Record for Most Software Downloaded in 24 Hours.Download Day!

Anyways, you can read up on all that yourself. Go ahead by clicking this linked image I have here. They have an incentive for referring users, but I’m not exactly clear on what the incentive is. Unless it’s some kind of loyalty thing. Whatever. I don’t understand why Download Day isn’t even dated yet!

So for the point of this post, finally: They recently met One Million pledges world wide. Now the only question that remains is: Will these people actually do it? and Are some of these numbers… kind of fake?

And by fake, I mean users are pledging multiple times. Not Firefox actually creating the numbers. (Although, do they mind? Who knows.) But all these questions will be answered in the very near future when Download Day begins. (Sometime this month.)

You may already guess that, yes, I’m participating in this. So… Any Download Day parties I don’t know about?

Doing something for a record is utterly stupid. I did not expected such a thing from FF , which an exceptionally good browser.

Not that stupid. Childish, maybe, but I think it gets the word out for them. ‘Cool’ advertisement?

Yeah well, ‘guru’ judging by your nickname and the tact you approach this with, I think its fair to assume you’re an opinionated dick who wants firefox to conform to his whims and ideals.

The sane population of the planet however, think mozilla are entitled to try and break whatever damn records they want.

I didn’t say Mozilla wasn’t entitled to try and break records.

I even participated in the event.
